Minutes of the Regularly Scheduled Council Meeting
March 26, 2001

Mayor Ed Hilbert called the meeting to order at 6:33 p.m. with the following members present: Barry Armstrong, Sam Beichler, Sid Griffin, Frank Sullivan. Ralph Lutes and Brent Wheeler were absent.

The City Attorney, City Engineer, Utility Superintendent, City Treasurer and City Clerk were also present.

The invocation was given by Mayor Ed Hilbert.

Frank Sullivan made a motion to accept the minutes of the March 12, 2001 meeting as read. Barry Armstrong seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Kim Fell gave the Treasurers Report.

The second reading was conducted on zoning amendment 2001Z-11 on Dogwood Homes and the Estate of Texie Fay Sprung property. 42.76 acres more or less from Agricultural to R-2 Residential. Sam Beichler made a motion to approve zoning amendment 2001Z-11. Sid Griffin seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Mayor Ed Hilbert made a statement in regard to Meijers Inc. and their decision not to locate in Mt. Washington. Meijers stated that their decision was made at the corporate level and is an economic move by them. Meijers has canceled all new construction.

Barry Armstrong made a motion to remand the vote and second reading on zoning amendment 2001Z-13 for Douglas and Doris H. Smith for 30 days to give time to Mr. Smith to consult his attorney. Sid Griffin seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Mayor Hilbert presented Mike Dooley, Chief of the Mt. Washington Fire Department, a check for $5,000 from Governor Patton.

Nancy and Dewey Putt, of 149 Jasper Lane, addressed the Council about the fence that is going to border the City's parks property and their property. They feel that there is no need for the fence across the section behind their home. Mrs. Stephens also had concerns and stated that she did not want the fence.

Sid Griffin made a motion not to fence the City Park. Barry Armstrong suggested we ask other residents about their feelings on the fence. The motion was withdrawn until we hear back from the residents.

Barry Armstrong made a motion to close Hwy 44 and Bardstown Road from the Houchens Grocery to Lakeview Drive from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for the parade and closing Oakbrook Drive May 11th and 12th for the Mt. Washington Spring Festival this year and donating $1,000 toward expenses of the festival. Sam Beichler seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Frank Sullivan made a motion to advertize the web site on television. Sid Griffin seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Sid Griffin made a motion to enter into executive session at 7:30 p.m. in regard to personnel. Barry Armstrong seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Frank Sullivan made a motion to reconvene open session at 8:29 p.m. Sid Griffin seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

The first reading was conducted on Ordinance 2001-05 in relation to a salary schedule.

Sam Beichler made a motion to authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to set up a planning retreat for the Council to develop short term and long term planning. Barry Armstrong seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

Sid Griffin made a motion to cancel the regularly scheduled Council meeting on April 9th due to the possibility of not having a quorum of council members present. Frank Sullivan seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)

There being no further business before the Council, Frank Sullivan made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Sid Griffin seconded the motion. Motion passed. (Unan.)
