Where does my water
come from?
The Mt. Washington Water & Sewer Company is an entity owned
by the City of Mt. Washington. The water company's constant goal is to provide
you with a safe and dependable supply of drinking water. We want you to
understand the efforts we make to continually improve the water treatment
process and protect our water resources. The Mt. Washington Water Company is
committed to ensuring the quality of your water.
 Your drinking water is currently
purchased from Louisville Water Company (LWC). The intake for LWC is located on
the Ohio river near the Zorn pumping station on Zorn Avenue. The Ohio River is
classified as surface water.
The sources of drinking water (both tap and bottled water) include rivers,
lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs, and wells. As water travels over the
surface of the land or the ground, it dissolves naturally occurring minerals and
in some cases, radioactive material, and can pick up substances resulting from
the presence of animals or human activity. Contaminants that may be present in
source water include microbial contaminants, inorganic contaminants, pesticides
and herbicides, organic chemical contaminants, and radioactive contaminants. In
order to ensure that tap water is safe to drink, EPA prescribes regulations that
limit the amount of certain contaminants in water provided by public water
systems.
City of Mt. Washington Water Company routinely monitors for constituents in your
drinking water according to Federal and State laws.
